Day 1 - Shuttle Pickup + Kaiaua

(55 km)

Your 5-day bike adventure starts with a pickup from Matamata. From here we take a scenic drive to the seaside village of Kaiaua. Today’s 55km ride will give your group the chance to familiarise themselves with the bikes and the trail, and generally blow out a few travel cobwebs. Ride along chenier banks beside the Firth of Thames, taking in the Shorebirds and lush farmlands with magnificent views to the Coromandel Ranges.

Pass by the Pūkorokoro Shorebird Centre before heading onwards towards Thames where accommodation is at the charming Lady Bowen B&B built in 1868 or Thames newest motel Tuscany on Thames. Thames provides plenty of dining options.
